Collage Bird Takes Flight

Happy Sunday! I spent several hours of joyful art making and my colorful bird takes flight.

This is how the bird started….Derwent watercolor and Sharpie fine line black pen. 6″ x 9″

and…after some cutting and pasting the bird is soaring high. The background is made with Derwent watercolor and watercolor pencil. 9″ x 10.5″

Draw a Bird Day

Good Morning – I don’t always make the 8th of the month for Draw a Bird Day, but today I have two birds to share.

Watercolor and watercolor pencil… House Sparrow

I received a catalog in the mail for window treatments, so I used the different patterns for the a dandy collage bird.

Layers of Color

Greetings…Today’s post is multi layers of color. I started with painting a pattern with watercolor. I then lightly drew the flower shape and painted a thin glaze of bright blue over the background. I added several layers of colored pencil texture so the flower color would pop. I’m happy with the results.

These two designs were made several years ago, similar technique.

Agave

Good Morning….A preliminary watercolor and watercolor pencil sketch for a larger piece of art work. I’m considering a collage and watercolor Agave plant. ¬†I have plenty in my backyard for studies. Have a creative day.

7′ x7″ watercolor, watercolor pencil

Florals

Good Morning…to get a boost for my morning warm up, I was looking through a magazine and came across a fabric design that inspired me to draw my own rendition. I used watercolor, watercolor pencil, brown tone graphic marker and the finale was posterization in Photoshop.

Succulent

Recently, when I was shopping, I was pleasantly surprised to see wood planks stretched across a wall and succulents planted between the planks.

The watercolor is a result of the picture I took. I’ll be using this art for the cover of a ¬†journal I’m making.

Here is the actual planter.
