Good Morning…I tried a different approach to another one of my colorful watercolor backgrounds. After I painted the watercolor I used black gesso to paint the sunflower and vase. When the gesso was dry I used Derwent Inktense Blocks to add the color on the gesso which added interesting textures and transparent areas. I had to add three layers of paint over the black gesso. A fun experiment.

Have a happy weekend.

Fiber and Paint

Many moons ago I spent hours working with fabrics and thread. I used this medium for my illustrations. This is one of the illustrations I personally loved and still own.

Here is the background for a new greeting card to come, I’ll post the finished image in the next post.

Santa Monica Pier

The iconic Santa Monica Pier is an attraction where thousands of people gather every weekend. I snapped a picture while at the stop light across from the pier for my reference. My colored pencil sketch was enhanced in Photoshop to add the cloud effects.

More Birds

Good Morning – Two more cards designed for my greeting card collection.

The Macaw was painted separately and then placed on a mosaic made from watercolor painted designs. I then added a bit of posterization.

The Rooster was drawn with markers which can be erased and that allowed me to add the white lines.
